A Rare Jaguar E Type 1961
A Rare Jaguar E Type 1961
With its sensuous sculptural 1961 jaguar e-type , superb performance and enduring appeal, the Jaguar E-type is considered by many to be one of the greatest sports cars of all time. Whether driving on the open road or tearing around a racetrack, the E-Type offers an unrivalled blend of speed and handling.
The E-Type was Jaguar’s replacement for the XK 150 series and drew heavily from the racing D-types that had won Le Mans three times, giving it an unmistakable pedigree. It was, like the D-types, a true two seater and a pure sports car, offering unrivalled roadholding and speed. It used a version of the 3.8-litre XK engine that had proved so devastatingly effective at the track, and was available as either an Open Top Roadster or Fixed Head Coupe.
Timeless Beauty: Exploring the Classic Design of the 1961 Jaguar E-Type
This particular example was built in late March 1961, on the leading edge of production and before the factory implemented even a single change to the model. As such, it retains a number of details that only appeared later in the production run including covered headlamps and external bonnet latches. It also features flat floors, a feature that lasted only until February 1962 when the floor was raised to a more practical level.
It is not often that a Series 1 comes onto the market and it is particularly rare for one to be treated with the level of correctness and thorough enthusiasm displayed by this magnificent car. After being delivered new to a Jaguar dealer in the US and then subsequently sold for 45 years, this OTS underwent a complete strip-down and restoration in Dubai prior to its return to the UK in 2015. It has only changed hands once since and is in absolutely mint condition.
